Pierre & Vacances Group and Intrawest Hotels & Residences have signed an agreement for the acquisition of Intrawests lodging and commercial operations at Arc 1950 in Savoie and the Flaine Montsoleil resort located in the Haute Savoie region of France.

Chacaltaya glacier in Bolivia is vanishing due to global warming

When the Chacaltaya glacier vanished six years sooner than scientists predicted, a victim of global warming, so, too, did the world’s highest ski run. The loss of the 18,000-year-old glacier this year that loomed above Bolivia’s Altiplano threatens to diminish water supplies to 2 million people clustered around La Paz, according to the World Bank.

British Airways scrap free baggage allowance on ski and snowboard baggage

Winter sports fans travelling to resorts with British Airways next season face charges to carry their skis and snowboards under a shakeup of baggage charges. For passengers booking from July 31 onwards and travelling after October 7, sporting equipment will cost £40 per bag on long haul or £35 on short haul flights if it is in addition to their free checked luggage allowance. There is a discount if you book online.

Reno Tahoe International Airport will be getting a daily flight to Mammoth Lakes just in the time for the winter ski season

Reno-Tahoe International Airport will be getting a daily flight to Mammoth Lakes, Calif., just in the time for the winter ski season. Airport officials on Monday announced that Horizon Airlines will offer the flight Dec. 17 through April 11. The 76-seat Bombardier Q400 will leave Reno daily at 4:30 p.m., and arrive at Mammoth Mountain at 5:20 p.m. A return flight leaves Mammoth at 4:20 p.m., arriving in Reno about 50 minutes later. Officials say the flight will originate in Seattle, and make the stops in Reno and Mammoth Lakes before continue to Los Angeles.

Cardrona ski resorts appeal decision

A decision on Cardrona Ski Resort Ltd’s appeal against its conviction and sentence of paying almost $60,000, relating to an incident on the skifield, was reserved by Justice Graham Pankhurst in the High Court at Invercargill this week. On May 25, Judge Paul Keller, of Dunedin, ordered the company to pay a fine of $43,000 and reparation of $16,555 to Australian resident Rosemary Berry, and court costs of $130, at the Queenstown District Court, The prosecution was for the company’s breach of the Health and Safety Act 1992.
