Ryanair announced today that passengers who book a ski flight before midnight Thursday (1 October) can bring their skis for free.

Ryanair’s Winter Ski Programme 2009/10 offers 50 weekly flights from 7 UK airports to ski destinations in Cuneo, Grenoble, Lourdes, Salzburg and Turin at the lowest ski fares in Europe this year!

Ski routes from Birmingham, Bristol, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow (Prestwick), Liverpool and London Stansted are available now from just £19.99 one way (incl taxes and charges) on Ryanair.com.

South Korea submit their bid for Pyeongchang to host the 2018 Winter Olympics

South Korea have formally submitted their bid for Pyeongchang to host the 2018 Winter Olympics.

Pyeongchang narrowly failed in bids to host the 2010 and 2014 Winter Games but the South Korean Olympic Commitee is hoping for third time lucky.

“It is an honour to submit the application to the International Olympic Committee in support of the South Korean government and the KOC,” the bidding committee said.

Suburban skiing in Surbiton as skiers hit the lino

It rarely sees a flake of snow and is better known as the backdrop for TV sitcom The Good Life than Ski Sunday.

But next month, Surbiton will bid to become Greater London’s first ski resort with the launch of ”suburban skiing”.

A band of street skiers plans to travel through the streets of the suburb near Kingston on skis made from ice. Linoleum will be laid over the tarmac.

Winter fun arrives in London for the Swiss Extravaganza

Winter fun in the capital arrives on September 30th and October 1st with a special Swiss-themed pre-Christmas event, taking place at Broadgate Circle. A little bit of Switzerland will be transported to the heart of the City, with the creation of a 5m x 20m long ski slope adjacent to Liverpool Street station.

From school desk to British ski champion… Sheffield’s hottest ski star Hannah Handford-Styring is flying high — after winning the British ladies’ ski championship just a day before her 13th birthday.

The Notre Dame High schoolgirl won the British Moguls Ski Championship at Castleford’s SNO! zone.

She has been skiing for eight years, topping up her training with regular trips to Tigne in the French Alps and weekly ski sessions at Sheffield’s ski village.

Bumper snow fall extends Victorian Alps ski season

A cold snap delivering up to half a metre of snow to the Victorian Alps has pushed some resorts to extend their ski season for another week.

Although the official season ended on the weekend, Mt Buller and Falls Creek resorts have announced they are extending their seasons due to ”massive” weekend falls.

Mt Buller received 58 centimetres of fresh snow, while Falls Creek had 26cm and Mt Hotham 33cm over the weekend.
