One of the world’s toughest dog sledding races in the world, La Grande Odyssée is being raced again in France this January and holiday makers skiing in the beautiful landscape of the Haute Maurienne Vanoise have the chance to see the race if they’re in resort when it passes through, or to try dog sledding themselves throughout the season.

Ski Train season cancelled
The popular Ski Train that had ferried passengers between Denver and Winter Park since 1940 will not run at all during the 2009–2010 season. Iowa Pacific Holdings has not been able to reach an operational agreement with Amtrak, which was to provide crews to operate the train.

Lots more snow is forecast for Whistler in Canada
It should be a fairly snowy week in Austria. Most resorts are expecting between 10cm and 30cm of fresh snow on the upper slopes. The freezing level is expected to hover around 1400m in many places which means only slopes above around 1300m will receive the snow. Rain is likely beneath this altitude.
