The Arizona Snowbowl is one step closer to making artificial snow on the San Francisco Peaks. On Monday morning, the U.S. Supreme Court refused to hear a final appeal from the Navajo Nation, thus giving Snowbowl the green light to go on with its plans to make the fake snow. A U.S. Forest Service offical said this victory comes more than six years of legal battle.

Native American tribes, however, are angered by the decision. Klee Benally, a spokesperson for the Save the Peaks Coalition, said Monday’s decision was a step in the wrong direction. He said, “This most basic right as American people, our religious freedom in this country, is being denied so we will continue to act and work in a prayerful manner.”

Various organizations plan to hold a protest in front of the Flagstaff City Hall on Monday evening. Meanwhile, Snowbowl officials said they will work together with the U.S. Forest Service to make plans to bring reclaimed water up to the resort in the coming year.
