After a long mild spell over the last few weeks in Europe, cold weather is finally on its way. The cold snap is expected over the whole of the Alps and also down into the Pyrenees, where Andorra is situated. Austria should be the place to head for fresh snow over the weekend. The cold weather should bring with it around 25cm of snow.

The two areas expected to receive the most of the snow in the next five days are the Zillertal region and the Arlberg area.

The Hintertux glacier should see around 35cm of fresh snow land, with it falling heaviest on Thursday and Friday. You can expect temperatures down to around -13C at 1200m and closer to -20C at 2300m.

France is expecting the same cold weather but not as much snow. Tignes Le Lac is likely to see temperatures of around -15C overnight and daytime highs of around -12C.

Light snow is expected on Friday, Saturday and Sunday but it shouldn’t amount to any more than a few centimetres.

The western areas of Switzerland are where the most snow there should fall. Any resorts close to the Austrian border, like Samnaun, should receive around 30cm of fresh snow by Tuesday next week.

As with the rest of Europe, it should be cold.

It should be quite a snowy few days in America. The weekend should be a snowy one for Jackson Hole, which is expecting 50cm of snow to fall by next Tuesday.

The cold period of weather is expected to continue as well, although it should be slightly warmer than of late.

35cm of powder is expected to fall over the course of Saturday and Sunday, followed by more snowfall on Monday and Tuesday.

Another snowstorm should hit the Rockies this weekend, especially in Colorado.

Following the snowy weather this week at Vail, a further 20cm is expected to fall on Friday and Saturday. The temperature should also stay low too, dropping down to -23C on Friday.

There is good news for the east coast as well, in the form of prolonged cold weather. Night-time temperatures of -10C and daytime temperatures no higher than -4C mean the snow cannons can run around the clock, helping them build up their snow base after a slow start to the season.

Sunday River is only expecting a further 4cm of snow to fall by Tuesday next week, but the cold weather should keep the recent dump in good condition.

Arctic weather still dominates in Canada and it isn’t expected to warm up any time soon. Snow is on its way to many resorts, with Revelstoke expecting around 40cm of fresh powder to fall on the slopes by Tuesday.

Temperatures of -35C will provide great powder skiing but cover up all exposed skin or you will get frost bite.
