Britain’s number one skier, Chemmy Alcott (27, Twickenham), has today (20 December) produced another good result in Val d’Isere, France with a 16th place in the Super G.
After a long delay following a big crash from Marie
The result continues Alcott good run of form following her 9th place in Friday’s (18 December) Super Combined in Val d’Isere, 11th place in the Giant Slalom in Are on 12 December and the 15th place in the Super G in Lake Louise.
Mark Tilston, British Alpine Ski Team Head coach, commented “Chemmy skied a bit too round at the top and gave the course a bit too much respect but she skied the bottom well. She is happy with the result but a little disappointed too as she knows if she had lost half of what she did lose at the top section it would have had a very different result”.
Results:
1st — AUFDENBLATTEN, Fraenzi (SUI), 1:26.43
2nd — STYGER, Nadia (SUI), 1:26.66
3rd — VONN, Lindsey (USA), 1:26.69
Elsewhere on the World Cup circuit Britain’s Zoe Gillings finished a disappointing 18th in the second LG Snowboard FIS World Cup Snowboard Cross event in Telluride, USA. Gillings commented after the race, “I’m really disappointed with the result today, even though I am treating each World Cup as preparation for the Olympics, and training specific areas of each race I still thought I had done enough to qualify. It shows just how tight the competition is so I’m now focussing 100% on the next World Cup in Austria in January.”
There was one success story in Telluride however, Britain’s Adam McLeish finished in 8th place in the Parallel Giant Slalom on 17 December. The result is McLeish’s first World Cup top ten finish and really boots his chances of qualification ahead of the Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver in February.
