Getting on the ski hill may have gotten a little easier, even as the recession’s grip lingers. For the first time, the Telluride Ski and Golf will offer season adult season passes with financing available, according to a recent release from the ski area. And this year’s passes cost as much as last year’s.
“It was in recognition of tough economic times,” said Tom Watkinson, the public relations and communications manager for the ski area. “It’s a big check for anyone to write. We’re just trying to help people out as much as possible and get them on the hill. We want people up skiing.”
Watkinson didn’t have any hard numbers yesterday — didn’t know if the move increased sales or not — but said there was interest around town.
“I’m getting a lot of inquiries for sure,” he said.
The plan will require 50 percent of the $1,198 current sale price due with a $20 processing charge before the pass sale ends on Oct. 30. After that, 25 percent is due on Dec. 15 and the final balance on Jan. 15. The $1,198 price is a sale price, too; skiers have through Oct. 30 to snag that deal before the passes jump to $1,850, the full price.
For bigger discounts, four adults may purchase a 4Pass — four season passes — together during the sale and save an additional $200 per pass.
There has been a fair amount of confusion over the four packs — people wonder if they can extend the deals to five would-be passholders or cut them back to three. The answer: “The 4Pass is for four people,” Watkinson said. “Not three. Not five or six.”
The junior pass is $175 (ages 13-18) and the child pass is $125 (ages 6-12) during the sale. senior passes are offered at $499 (ages 65 +). With an enrollment history verification form showing 12 credit hours at an accredited college, college passes can be purchased at the $299 sale price. Children 5 and under pay a $25 processing fee for a season pass for the convenience of bypassing the ticket line each day. All season passes offer unrestricted skiing and riding. Purchasers of college, adult and senior passes will also receive a subscription to Ski Magazine and three days skiing at Taos, which recently opened up to snowboarders.
