Leading French resort La Plagne is recommending Brits grab their new First Tracks tickets to be sure they get the fresh lines in the vast ski area every morning, especially during the busy school holiday period at Christmas, New year and in February.

This new pass allows guests to head up to the summit early, ahead of normal lift opening hours, to watch the sun rise over La Plagne, enjoy a buffet breakfast at the Carlina, and ride the untouched slopes first thing.

Located in the heart of the French Alps, forming part of the giant Paradiski area, La Plagne boasts a huge range of activities and experiences to keep the whole family entertained. The ski area offers 130 pistes covering 225 kilometers, including 16 black runs, 34 reds for the advanced skiers, and with 70 blue runs and 10 green runs for beginners. It is a snow sure resort with 83% of the ski area is above an altitude of 2000m and the resort has a glacier at an altitude of 3250m.

There are a number of facilities to keep kids of all ages and abilities entertained on the slopes including 16 secure kindergartens for kids (jardin d’enfants), as well as six children’s snow play areas and 17 ski schools across the La Plagne ski domain.

Families with teenagers can arrange for a six day freestyle and freeride camp (from 12 years up). The ESF in Plagne Centre offers freestyle coaching where you can learn to jump with the “big air bag”, ride the backcountry, learn gymnastic basics on a trampoline, and take part in skier cross trials. Participants receive video analysis, a photo shoot and a freestyle certificate. Suitable for intermediate skiers and above. A six day course costs 265€.

For those interested in cross country skiing, La Plagne offers a huge 80 km of slopes, of which 22kms can be found in the Champagny le Haut valley. It’s one of the most beautiful Nordic ski areas in the Savoie region.

Besides skiing and snowboarding, the resort brings a host of activities to keep kids and parents entertained including dog sledding, bob sleigh, and a chance to climb Europe’s largest ice tower and a great selection of bars, restaurants and shops.

The resort is easily accessible from Geneva, Lyon, Grenoble and Chambery airports, and is less than a 2 hour drive from each of these, making it a great destination for families.
