Tahoe in California currently has the most snow in the United States with Kirkwood Mountain Resort ringing in 200inches (5 metres) for the season total to date. One to two feet (30–60cm) of fresh powder has fallen in the last 24 hours to Lake Tahoe South Shore ski resorts – Heavenly Mountain Resort, Sierra-at-Tahoe Resort and Kirkwood Mountain Resort.

Storms originally predicted to drop up to an incredible road-blocking 12 feet (3.6 metres) have instead turned to skier-friendly systems calling for another one to three feet (90cm) through Thursday, for a weekly total of three to five feet (90–150cm) and convenient access to the destination Saturday and Sunday.

“The base is solid and conditions have been exceptional all winter, but this weekend will arguably be the best conditions yet this season,” said Carol Chaplin, executive director of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority. “The new snowfall means it just keeps getting better on the mountain during the day, which means there’s more partying at night. We lead the country in that category, too.”
