Nepal Ski Nepal Nepalese ski resorts

Skiing and heli-skiing is a new sport in Nepalese Himalayas. Being the home of eight of the highest mountains in the world, Nepal brings out the best of skiing and mountaineering expeditions. The Everest region, Annapurna, Dhauligiri, Makalu, Cho Oyu, Kangchenjunga, the Dolpo regions, and more are all ready and waiting for your on-snow signature. It would take a lifetime of skiing each and every area before you skied the same run twice.

Unlike in the mountainous regions of Kashmir, skiing in Nepal has not been developed with lifts and lodges. But some high valleys and slopes are ideal or cross-country skiing. West Nepal, near Rara Lake, and upper Langtang or parts of Khumbu are less steep than many of Nepal’s near vertical valleys, and could be approached during late winter or early spring. Skis and equipment are not generally nor available for rent in Kathmandu, so must be self-supplied.

Skiing is one sport that has gained immense popularity all over the world and in the past decade has become quite an attention grabbing sport because of the Himalayas. The vast open spaces above the snowline have flung open to ski enthusiasts.

Adding heli-skiing to Nepal’s already rich and mystic outdoor world makes it a Nepal experience like never before. From going to high remote places in Nepal during the winter months, to making endless first descents, to having it all to yourself, to incredible views of Nepal’s Himalaya while flying in the helicopter, or simply the incredible views taken in while skiing or lodges we stay at. It is incredible, and it is simply is beyond words, the experience will change you and the way you look at life.

Just being in Nepal’s Himalaya in the winter months is quite exciting all on its own; to be out in the middle of the Himalaya on skis is another world all together. If the views of the surrounding peaks doesn’t put you into a trance and into a world you never thought before existed, the skiing will, as this is some of the finest skiing on earth.

On the average, you can ski from 5,300 meters down to 3,300 meters. Occasionally you will get in a few 5,500 meter starts, making the ski descents over 2,200 vertical meters. The snow conditions are your typical big mountain snow conditions, where you will ski on just about anything a big mountain can throw at you. Since you have the advantage of a helicopter flying you, you will be able to pick and choose from the best conditions and exposures.

The areas will offer some of the most spectacular skiing on earth with the Everest region obviously coming in strong on the view department, via its spectacular and classic views of Everest, Lhotse, Nuptse and Ama Dablam.

Snow report Italian ski resorts in excellent shape

Much of Europe welcomed notable snowfall on Tuesday 31st January. Although many locations in France, Switzerland and Austria have subsequently received further snowfall, it has been rather light in comparison to Tuesday’s snowfall. Heavy cloud cover continues over many European resorts on Thursday 2nd February where Austrian resorts could receive additional snowfall. However, in Switzerland and France, it appears the sun is slowly burning the clouds away with a handful of resorts enjoying a pleasant day.

Lillehammer / Hafjell ski resort hotel accommodation and map — Norway

Lillehammer / Hafjell ski resort hotel accommodation and map Norway

Lillehammer hosted The Olympic Winter Games in 1994, and is known for old farms, a modern town centre and surrounding alpine skiing resorts. Lillehammer is one of Norway’s oldest winter sports destinations. The Olympic town is surrouned by good alpine and cross-country possibilities. The wide variety of alpine slopes at Hafjell provide a diverse range of skiing challenges. The alpine facility is not about crisscrossing slopes, but about long and fast continuous runs. Due to the advanced and comprehensive on-site snow-making facilities, Hafjell is a resort with reliable snow and skiing conditions throughout the entire winter ski season. All the slopes at the resort lead to the same final destination at the bottom of the hill — simple and easy.
