Snow report Italy and Switzerland expecting fresh snow

The weather in the Alps this weekend is expected to turn unseasonably wintry. Some areas in Italy and Switzerland are expecting over a metre of fresh snow with freezing levels down as low as 1600m, which is exceptional for the time of year and should provide the few resorts that are open with some great powder days. Saas Fee is expecting 127cm of new snow to fall on the upper slopes. 30cm should fall on Saturday 1st followed by 18cm on Sunday 2nd, which is their closing day. The heavy snow should continue into next week, although there will be no lift served skiing.

The most amount of snow in Austria is expected to fall at Obergurgl where 9cm could fall. Unfortunately they won’t benefit from the storm further west.

Hemsedal in Norway is expecting some light snow over their closing weekend. The temperature should hover around freezing so the snow is in fairly good condition, especially higher up.

The wintry weather in Colorado at the moment should last until Monday 3rd May.

Snow is expected up until Monday, totalling around 16cm over that period. From Tuesday onwards it will become more sunny and the temperature should climb up to 4C, with a freezing level of 4050m.

Squaw Valley down in California should warm up considerably again for the weekend. No more snow is expected and it should be sunny and warm for the foreseeable future.

It’s expected to snow at Banff in Canada over the weekend and into next week. With a freezing level dropping down to 1300m the ski areas should be pretty cold for May.

Temperatures could drop to -13C at the top of Sunshine Village, which will help keep the snow in good condition.
