European ski resorts start the snow cannons for the ski season
Unfortunately there hasn’t been any recent snowfall at our European resorts. However, whilst the majority of our featured Swiss and Italian resorts continue to enjoy the sunny rays, our French and Austrian resorts are starting to witness the return of cloud and fog, which has notably reduced riding visibility in some areas.
This week, artificial snow manufacturing has been a dominant activity across Europe. Resort operation teams are working round the clock to enable skiing and snowboarding at Val Thorens and Tignes in France, Pila in Italy, Obertauern in Austria and Andermatt in Switzerland.
Sadly it has not been cold or snowy enough yet for Norwegian and Swedish resorts to open. Some much needed colder weather and further snowfall are forecast for the week ahead.
More resorts have opened for the season in Canada and America. Whistler has opened for the season, with excellent snow already. The resort’s first big storm of the season is expected later this week.
