Heavy snow from early part November still being enjoyed
The open resorts we report on in Austria are in fairly good condition. Skiing and boarding is limited to glaciers but heavy snow at the beginning of the month is still holding up well. Recent snowfall at resorts further west in France, Italy and Switzerland is providing excellent piste conditions at the moment. People have also been enjoying fresh snow riding off the side of the slopes at some locations too.
There may not be any resorts open in the Pyrenees yet but snow has been falling, which bodes well for the season ahead.
The opening of resorts in Norway has had to be postponed because of a lack of snow. Geilo, Hemsedal, Oppdal and Trysil have all pushed their opening dates back to the either 18th or 19th November. They need much colder weather or heavy snow to be able to open.
Quite a few resorts are open in America now. From Friday 11th November it will be possible to ski at four resorts in Colorado. Breckenridge opens for the season on Friday and it’s a landmark season for them, celebrating their 50th winter of skiing and boarding.
The three areas of Banff will also be open this weekend. Lake Louise and Mt Norquay have already been open but Sunshine Village opens for the season this weekend. Jasper is also planning to open its ski area for the season. The resort is a 3 to 4 hour drive north from Banff.
