Winter is on the way to the Alps as temperatures drop
The temperature across the European resorts has started to decline at the end of this week, and hopefully this is a sign that winter is on its way. The lower temperature means that resorts can make snow too, which will help to set up a base for when the snow falls.
The weather has been mostly sunny across the Alps recently, and the weather on Thursday 24th November was no different. The open resorts are gleaming in the bright sunshine, with cloud cover being a rare site. This is creating fantastic visibility and combined with excellent groomed slopes, very pleasing riding environments can still easily be found.
Skiing is still not underway in Norway or Sweden. Mild weather has forced them to postpone opening once again. The only place to ski in Scandinavia at the moment is Ruka in Finland.
Lots of snow fell on the east coast of America, allowing many resorts to open a few lifts for Thanksgiving Day. Further west other resorts are preparing to open this weekend, like Jackson Hole.
Lots of snow fell in Canada too. Banff received 30cm of snow on Wednesday 23rd November, Sun Peaks received 15cm over Tuesday 22nd November and Wednesday and Whistler has received around a metre of snow this week.
