Summer weather dominates in the Alps
Summer weather dominates in the Alps. There was some rain in areas over the weekend, particularly in Austria, but it should improve for the coming week. Good skiing could be enjoyed on Monday 8th August at Saas Fee in Switzerland and Val Senales in Italy, as well as at Les Deux Alpes in France. Tignes in France was open for snowsports but visibility was reduced on Monday.
Strong winds at altitude meant that it was not possible to ski on Monday at Cervinia in Italy or Zermatt in Switzerland, which both share the Plateau Rosa glacier skiing area.
Australia has received fresh snow, following last week’s warm weather, 15cm fell on the slopes at Thredbo which made for some good powder skiing away from the runs.
It’s a similar story in New Zealand. Snowfall over the weekend has tipped Turoa’s base depth over two metres for the first time this season.
On the other side of the southern hemisphere, in Chile and Argentina, it snowed too.
Cerro Catedral has great skiing on offer following 20cm of snow over the weekend. The same is true in Chile, where Portillo enjoyed a snowy weekend with all of its lifts running.
