South Africa is a popular tourist destination boasting bustling cities, outstanding landscapes, sandy beaches and a stunning coastline. The weather here is great and the wildlife abundant. Table Mountain in Cape Town is without doubt the country’s most prominent landmark, while cosmopolitan Durban and the brilliant Kruger National Park are also must-sees. South Africa also boasts one or two ski resorts with great snow from July to September.

The main ski resort in South Africa is Tiffindell, located in the Ben Mac ski area. Having begun as a single-slope entity in the early 1990s, the slope has now grown three times in length and can accommodate both intermediate and beginner skiers and snowboarders. Tiffindell sometimes has favourable snow conditions, making off-piste and heli-skiing possible, while snowmaking machines provide back-up. Après-ski here is also active and the atmosphere is great.

Johannesburg International Airport is the main air hub of South Africa, receiving dozens of international carriers daily, while Cape Town and Durban also receive international flights.

There is a fairly extensive rail network in South Africa and bus routes are also good, with two major national operators. Minibuses are also a popular form of transport for the more budget conscious, while hiring a car is the best option if you want to explore the country. Car hire rates are reasonable and the road network is extensive, with roads being of a good quality.

Incidents of crime are fairly high in South African cities and car-jackings and muggings are not uncommon occurrences. While South Africa has good quality roads, care must be taken while negotiating mountain passes.
