Ski holidays in Colombia

As spring and summer sun melts the snow in the Northern Hemisphere, savvy skiers pack up and travel south to the great ski centers in South America where the ski season begins in mid-June and runs to October. You’ll find the best conditions in July and August.

Though by no means the best place to look for skiing in the Andes there are some skiing areas in Colombia, a couple of tiny resorts and some good ski-mountaineering opportunities.

There is some limited skiing on the volcanoes of the Los Nevados range, particularly on the southwest side of Nevado del Ruiz, where there is a convenient access road to 4900m. Most other areas of Colombia are at present very difficult or dangerous to access.

Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta in Colombia is a minor ski resort but it does boast a very impressive 5789 metres (18995 feet) of vertical descent. We have no information about the existence of any cross country ski trails at Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta. The nearest airport is at Barranquilla.
