Iran Ski Iran Iranian ski resorts

Formerly known as Persia, Iran is loaded with startling ruins of ancient cities, cultural relics, magnificent mosques and more museums than you could hope for. Iran also has lots to offer with regards to adventure activities such as trekking, hang gliding and skiing, and there are many quality Iranian resorts where you can partake in these activities, with most resorts being open from December to April.

Situated in the province of Ardebil, not far from the city of Sarein, Alvaresis ski resort is one of Iran’s top ski destinations and offers several slopes at an altitude of over 10,000 feet. Dizin was one of the first ski resorts to appear in Iran and is well known for its excellent snow quality due to its high altitude. Dizin is for beginners and intermediate skiers and is one of the top 40 ski resorts in the world for its altitude and north facing slopes.

Located to the northeast of Tehran in the Alborz mountain range is the resort of Shemshak, second only in size to Dizin. Shemshak is even older than Dizin and caters for advanced sliders with its two quality slopes that are fed by one main ski lift and several other smaller lifts. The skiing altitude here is between 8,000 feet and 10,000 feet and night skiing is also available. Tochal ski resort is located near Tehran and is fed by gondolas from the city. Skiing and snowboarding is available at Mount Tochal, which offers slope heights in excess of 13,000 feet.

Tehran-MehrabadInternational Airport is the main hub for air traffic into Iran, with many flights arriving from Asia, Europe and the Middle East. There are several other domestic airports in the country and cheap air tickets make travelling by air between major cities the best travel option. Travelling by rail is a good alternative that is cheap and safe, while buses are also convenient. Road surfaces are good in Iran, although distances between centres can be huge and urban driving can be difficult due to a lack of road rules.
