An 80-year-old man who attempted a two-metre ski jump on the weekend was rushed to hospital with a broken hip. An Ambulance Victoria helicopter flew the injured man, a regular skier at Mt Buller since the 1950s, off the mountain to Melbourne yesterday afternoon.
The man was injured on a ski run and suffered a fractured hip, intensive care flight paramedic Steve Grove said.
“He was skiing on an advanced ski run and was injured when he fell while attempting a two-metre jump,” he said.
“The man was given pain relief during the flight.
“When I asked him about still skiing at 80, he said: ‘Life is too short’.
