New gondola for Saalbach

Visitors to Austria’s big Saalbach Hinterglemm ski area will find another modern gondola serving the huge ski area with over 200 kilometres of piste this winter. The new eight seater gondola (and heated seats at that!) is the latest spend for Saalbach which has pumped more than 200 million Euros in on-mountain improvements, particularly upgrading its fleet of 55 lifts, over the past decade. Snowmaking has also been constantly improved, now covering 90% of the huge area.

The new Unterschwarzach lift is located in the Hinterglemm sector near to the Funpark with its top station situated above the ‘Gerstreit’ reservoir. It replaces an old T bar lift on the route and doubles capacity to 2,800 people per hour.

As well as the new lift, the floodlit piste and nightpark will also be expanded and enhanced. An essential step in improving comfort is in taking guests from the centre of Hinterglemm to the Unterschwarzach lift. Another 2.3 million Euros has also been spent on snow making improvements.
