The giant Italian Dolomiti Superski area began to open at the weekend.
Conditions are looking good thanks to the heavy snowfall at the beginning of November which had already led to some of Italy’s other major resorts including Bormio and Livigno opening early.
This snow accumulated on top of machine made snow laid down on the region’s slopes during the low temperatures in October.
The ski areas of Cortina d’Ampezzo, Kronplatz, Alta Pusteria and Val di Fiemme/Obereggen were the first to open some slopes and uphill facilities.
Snowfalls and lower temperatures are forecast for coming week in the Dolomites.
The remaining ski areas of Dolomiti Superski, which includes more than 50 ski areas in a dozen valleys, which together offer more than 1,200km of runs and over 450 lifts on one ticket, will start their winter season this Friday December 4th.
There are a number of special discounted deals on lift tickets and accommodation during the first few weeks of the winter.
