It’s been more than a century coming, but the new Rendl gondola lift at St Anton has finally united two of St Anton’s ski areas, so that visitors no longer need to walk or take a bus between the two main ski areas. “The new Rendl Lift marks a small revolution in St Anton’s winter sports offering.” Said a resort spokesperson. “The Galzig and Kapall ski areas now have friendly competition thanks to the more centrally located Rendl base station.
Skiers and snowboarders will be simply delighted with the “new” opportunities.” In fact Rendl isn’t new, it has just been more awkward to get to previously. It has always been an insiders’ tip amongst St Anton’s connoisseurs.
Those who discover it can enjoy wonderful slopes and descents in abundance. Due to its location in the past, substantially fewer guests found their way to the Rendl base station and missed the superb piste quality of St Anton’s north and west facing slopes. However, its wallflower existence has ended this winter and passengers can now enter the new Rendl base station less than 150 metres away from the Galzig lift, directly above the bus terminal at the west end of the village.
“The connection of the Rendl to the village centre is an optimal solution and an extraordinary quality improvement for our guests”, says Hannes Steinlechner, manager of the Arlberger lift company. The new building noticeably corresponds architecturally with the Galzig base station. Concrete, steel and glass building materials also dominate here and the style is modern and dynamic.
At the Rendl planning discussions, alongside design, comfort was an important factor. For instance, anyone arriving at the bus terminal can take escalators to the entrance foyer and those coming from the direction of Galzig and Kapall can use the ground level entrance. Queuing will be a rarity as the express cable car substantially increases the transport capacity: 2,000 persons per hour can ride up to 2,030 metres in the eight person cabins with heated seats in approximately seven and a half minutes.
Up on the Rendl, at the mountain station, a new panorama restaurant has been developed with 430 seats indoors and a further 160 places in the external area. Guests who are used to the high gastronomic quality provided by the Arlberger lift company can also expect it here.
The Arlberger lift company has not only invested in the building of the cable car and mountain restaurant, but also in the substantial development of the snowmaking technology on the Rendl, increasing capacity by 200%.
