Sun Peaks Resorts took a look Down Under to come up with a promotion that will have ski fans salivating.

I Want To Be The Snow Bum is a contest in which the winner will receive all-inclusive stay at the resort for the entire 2009/2010 winter season.

That’s right — the contest doesn’t award a day at the resort; the winner gets three months of powder.

“Yes, we got the idea from Queensland,” Tourism Sun Peaks president Christopher Nicolson told KTW in reference to the widely publicized Australian Best Job In The World promotion that saw one lucky person get paid to manage a tropical island for six months.

“It was a wonderful promotion and we think it will be great for Sun Peaks,” Nicolson said.

“We don’t think any other resort has done it.

The contest will see one lucky skier or snowboarder spend three months of the ski season skiing, snowboarding, tubing, snowmobiling — even dog sledding.

The winner will receive a season’s pass for the mountains, food vouchers, accommodation in a number of Sun Peaks’ hotels, plus equipment and outerwear. The winner will also enjoy a wide range of additional perks, including VIP and backstage passes to resort events and functions.

The contest consists of submitting a 60-second video showcasing contestants’ wit, charisma, love of mountains and the ability to make the most of the adventure. The competition is open to any intermediate skier or snowboarder in the world who is at least 19 years of age.

The winner will be expected to keep the rest of the world updated on their activities through social media avenues such as Facebook, Twitter and the official blog.

Videos should be submitted by Sunday, Nov. 15. The winner will be announced on Dec. 1 and begin their three-month stay on Jan. 4, 2010.

“Sun Peaks is tricky to promote because there are so many facets,” Nicolson said.

“So, to see it through the eyes of someone vacationing, on Facebook and You Tube and blogging, we are very excited about this.

They can talk about the farm-to-fork meal they had or how great that first powder run was.”
