A ‘natural’ terrain park to open in Vars next winter
Vars, which shares the 150km of piste in the Foret Blanche with neighbouring Risoul, has announced plans to open a ‘natural’ terrain park next winter to add to the four the resort already runs. The brand new park for the 2010–2011 season is called the “Wood Park”and will be made of modules constructed entirely in local wood – a similar concepts to Burton’ five Stash parks around the world. It should help cement the region’s growing reputation as a leading destination for snowboarders and freestyle skiers.
There are currently four terrain parks on the Vars side of the region with the main one located up at a snow sure 2400m under Cretes de l’Eyssina. The 800m long park covers more than eight hectares and has a wide range of terrain features arranged in to novice, intermediate, expert, and pro lines with a Cool Zone in which to chill out.
There are three additional snowparks in Vars—a JibPark with boxes, kicks, and street rails, a snowpark that’s best suited to younger or beginner riders, and there are also four bordercross runs ranging from easy to expert levels.
There’s a second park, also very highly rated, beneath the De Cezier chair in Risoul, a boardercross course, two natural half pipes and a maintained Olympic Park, plus a huge freeriding area.
