Vaujany improves leisure facilities

Vaujany, the small French village beneath the giant Grande Rousses ski area dominated by Alpe d’Huez, is working to expand its already good in-resort leisure facilities for next winter. The small village has benefitted from revenue generated by a nearby hydro-electric plant which has allowed it to spend on tourism infrastructure, including a fast giant cable car right to the centre of the ski slopes.

As well as its existing public leisure centre, Vaujany will add a large new ice rink measuring 50 metres long and 24 wide complete ith grand stand seating.

The resort will also improve its facilities for young children with a new nursery building covering 300 square metres.
There will also be a six-lane ten-pin bowling alley.

And for lovers of wellness and relaxation, a new spa will include a sauna, hammam, massage and hydrotherapy services.

The dining options will also expand with a new 120 seater restaurant incorporating a 50 square metre terrace. The village itself will have two funicular railway lifts installed to make it easier to get from one side to the other.

Work on these projects is now underway and they are due for completion ready for the start of the season after next in December 2011.
