A British climber plunged 130ft to his death while scaling a rockface in the French Alps with no safety rope. The 44-year-old, also not wearing a helmet, was killed instantly as he climbed the 12,000ft Milieu glacier.

The unnamed man was reported missing when he failed to return on Friday. His body was found the next day. Another British climber, in his 30s and also not wearing a helmet, was seriously injured in the same incident and was last night said to be in a ”grave condition”.
