Val Thorens, Europe’s highest ski resort in the world’s biggest ski area, the 3 Valleys in France, and the second resort to open in France this winter, has good news for first time skiers visiting this season , as the resort has spent 1.5 million Euros on a state-of-the-art, 40 hectare, special beginners area.

This area is equipped with four new conveyor lifts, complete with plastic tunnel weather-protection covers, improving the circulation on the whole snow front without effort.

These new developments also make the Cascades chairlift more accessible, getting first timers on to the resort’s green and blue slopes once they’ve mastered the basics of turning and stopping in the new beginner’s park.

The new carpet lifts are the fastest in France and run in opposite directions allowing beginners to go up and back down the slopes. The lifts are 240m long and have a big capacity of 3,000 skiers per hour.

To make the most of the new facilities without spending too much on a lift pass for the wider resort area which beginners won’t need in their first few days, Val Thorens has launched a special pass for beginners which covers 9 ski lifts serving the easiest slopes at a 50% saving on the regular pass. The daily pass for beginners is 18,75 Euros, or a half day is 15 Euros.
