Aspen in Colorado has announced it will be spending $27 million across its four separate ski areas this summer in readiness for winter 2011–12. A lot of the money will go on some nice new mountain restaurants but they’re also adding a nice new high speed quad chairlift at the Buttermilk ski area on the outskirts of Aspen, host venue of the annual winter X Games for the past decade or so.
About 12 inches (30 cm) of fresh snow has fallen over the past few days in Aspen and things are looking great for the start of the season which is only 24 days away. (26 November).
Also opening weekend, Aspen/Snowmass will be hosting the Women’s FIS World Cup race on Aspen Mountain. The world’s best women skiers will be there to show their skills!
