The ski resorts of Canada are relishing awesome new snowfalls, as skiers and boarders start to take to the slopes to enjoy great early season conditions. British Columbia is enjoying the best of the recent snow, with Whistler having received over 30cm (12′) of the white stuff in the last 24 hours and Fernie, which opens this weekend, seeing more than 1/2m (20′) in the past week.

With the World Cup Mens Downhill and Men’s Super G kicking off in Banff Lake Louise November 27th, the Canadian ski seasons kicks off super early this year. Blackcomb Mountain has 2800 feet of vertical open for riding and skiing today and mother nature has also brought an early start to Big White and Kicking Horse Mountain Resorts.

La Nina means Whistler opens Friday

B.C.’s ski and snowboard industry has high hopes for the upcoming season. With reports that the La Nina weather cycle will bring heavy snow throughout the winter, ski and snowboarding areas are busy getting lifts and hills ready. At Whistler Blackcomb, plans are for the resort to open Whistler Mountain Friday, with Blackcomb following on Thursday, Nov. 25.

Banff skiing for Halloween

Banff’s Mount Norquay ski area, one of North America’s oldest, is aiming to open for Halloween Weekend, October 30–31st, this year. To celebrate, the Tube Park has been expanded, a new Kidz Zone has been created and Cascade Lodge and Tube Town Lodge have both been renovated. Seniors aged 65 and over can also buy a season pass for 85 dollars.

New lift for Banff

Banff’s local ski hill of Mt Norquay turns 85 this winter and has many great events planned throughout the season. Work on the ski area broke ground in 1926, followed by the construction of the ski lodge in 1928. Rope tows followed in 1942 and history was soon made when the mountain installed the area’s first chair lift in 1948, one of the first in Canada.
