The Vancouver Olympics luge competition will resume on Saturday, a day after a Georgian athlete died in a training run, Games organisers said on Friday. “The FIL (International Luge Federation) will resume men’s training Saturday morning with two full training runs prior to the competition taking place as scheduled at 17h00 (0100 GMT),” VANOC said in a statement.

Family launch sports trust in memory of ski death graduate Myles Robinson

The family of British graduate Myles Robinson, who was found dead in a Swiss ski resort, today launched a charitable foundation in his name. The 23-year-old was found at the bottom of a 330ft cliff a mile outside the village of Wengen, seven days after he disappeared following a night out after walking a friend back to her hotel.

Ski instructor Grace Lynn McNeil found dead in Colorado

Two skiers have died in accidents at Colorado ski resorts this week. A 23-year-old ski instructor at the Arapahoe Basin ski area was found dead at the Steamboat ski area Wednesday. Routt County Coroner Rob Ryg says Grace Lynn McNeil of Cedar, Mich., was found under 2 feet of snow in a tree well, the depression of snow that forms around a tree base.

The family of a man found dead in the Swiss ski resort of Wengen were today preparing to fly his body home to London. Ski slopes rocked by avalanches

Alpine avalanches and skiing accidents killed at least 10 people in Europe over the weekend, with three people missing and warnings of more danger. Two avalanches bore down the Bernese Alps in central Switzerland on Sunday, together killing at least five people including a doctor in a mountain rescue team despatched to the scene.

Briton Nigel Jackson dies on Chamonix ski slopes

Severe Alpine weather has claimed the life of a British skier who is thought to have been caught in a small avalanche on Christmas Day. The forty-three-year-old man has been identified as Londoner, Nigel Jackson. He was holidaying in La Tour in Chamonix with his girlfriend and two other friends over the Christmas period.

Body found in Swiss Alps confirmed as missing Briton Myles Robinson

A body found near a Swiss ski resort has been confirmed as that of a Briton who vanished after leaving a bar. Myles Robinson, 23, disappeared after leaving the Blue Monkey bar in Wengen to take a friend to her hotel just after 0200 GMT on 22 December.
