Mother Nature and Western Canada’s Largest Snowmaking system have turned Nakiska Ski Area white this week! “Nakiska, known as Calgary’s Closest Mountain, wants you to get ready to ski” says Matt Mosteller. During the 2010-2011 ski and snowboard season nearly 100,000 skiers/snowboarders activated their EpicMix accounts (a 15-percent adoption rate), generating more than 35 million social impressions and racking up more than 55 billion vertical feet of skiing and snowboarding at Vail, Beaver Creek, Breckenridge, Keystone and Heavenly.

The giant Kitzbühel ski region which has grown to be one of the world’s biggest interchangeable lift pass areas with more than 1060km of lift linked pistes has announced a €70m spent on upgrades this winter. The Kitzbüheler Alpen AllStarCard ski pass expanded last season and now covers more than 1,000km of pistes in 10 ski regions including Kitzbühel, the SkiWelt, Saalbach-Hinterglemm, Zell am See, St. Johann in Tirol and others with 350 ski lifts in total included. It’s one of the world’s biggest.

Val d’Isère improvements for new season

Val d’ Isère has announced a number of improvements on its slopes, shared with neighbouring Tignes in the giant Espace Killy region, this winter. A new easy blue run, Petit Bois, is being created in the Fornet Sector. A second new trail Acticross is a new fun course for children on the Mont Blanc piste in the heart of the calm skiing zone on the Bellevarde sector.

The wait is almost over as the new ski season approaches. Sölden will open tomorrow for 2010–11, one month earlier than planned, with a few lifts in operation on the Rettenbach glacier. Vaujany improves leisure facilities

Vaujany, the small French village beneath the giant Grande Rousses ski area dominated by Alpe d’Huez, is working to expand its already good in-resort leisure facilities for next winter. The small village has benefitted from revenue generated by a nearby hydro-electric plant which has allowed it to spend on tourism infrastructure, including a fast giant cable car right to the centre of the ski slopes.
