Rail Europe has teamed up with top travel journalist and rail expert Anthony Lambert to produce its guide to the best scenic rail routes in Europe. Anthony has chosen his ten favourite journeys covering countries including Norway, France, Slovenia and Italy.

Cross-Channel train operator Eurostar has linked up with Swiss high speed rail firm Lyria to provide return fares between London and Switzerland from under £100.

A nonstop flight from Tokyo landed in Salt Lake City at about 11:30 a.m. Wednesday. The 12-hour flight is the first in a new service from Delta Air Lines. It is the first time Salt Lake City has seen an Airbus 330 jet on a regular basis and the first trans-Pacific service in the Intermountain region. The flight will run five times a week.

Direct flights from Norwich airport to Geneva will start this winter aimed at skiing enthusiasts. The weekly service by budget operator Flybe will begin on Saturday, December 19, serving flight-only customers and winter package holidays to 12 major ski resorts in the Swiss city through tour operator Inghams.

To the casual observer the decision by bmi British Midland to create its own in-house low-cost carrier was a clear response to Go’s announcement in late 2001 that it intended to make East Midlands (EMA) its third UK base (after London Stansted and Bristol). bmi was so keen to try and dissuade Go (at that point no longer owned by British Airways) from entering its ancestral home market that it even announced plans for the rival airline a whole week before coming up with a name.

The airline lost over £400m and is higher than expected. The whole industry has huge problems and many of us that fly to the Alps and other ski destinations could be affected. Earlier this month the no-frills airline easyJet announced record losses of £130m. Now British Airways has revealed how it is doing.
