The weather in the Alps this weekend is expected to turn unseasonably wintry. Some areas in Italy and Switzerland are expecting over a metre of fresh snow with freezing levels down as low as 1600m, which is exceptional for the time of year and should provide the few resorts that are open with some great powder days. Saas Fee is expecting 127cm of new snow to fall on the upper slopes. 30cm should fall on Saturday 1st followed by 18cm on Sunday 2nd, which is their closing day. The heavy snow should continue into next week, although there will be no lift served skiing.
La Plagne expecting snow this week
The weather between Thursday 15th March and Sunday 18th March is expected to be largely snowy in France, delivering around 15–20cm of snow to most places. La Plagne should have light snowfall until Sunday and generally cold weather too, with the freezing level hovering between 1900m and 2000m. From Monday, 19th April, onwards it should get much sunnier and warmer with the freezing level climbing to around 2500m.
Snow expected in Whistler
The western Alps are generally expecting a colder and snowier start to the week, followed by a warm and sunny ending. Meribel in France should receive around 20cm of snow over the course of this week, before the sun comes out and the temperature climbs on Friday. By early next week the freezing level should be up around 2400m, giving some great spring skiing. The weather is not expected to be as good in the eastern half of the Alps. Many places in Austria are expecting more snow with around 20–30cm expected at most places.
Obertauern in Austria expecting 26cm of snow to fall
It’s expected to be a fairly dry week across Europe with most resorts expecting somewhere in the region of 0–20cm of snow by Tuesday 13th April. It should be fairly mild in France, with Avoriaz expecting some light rain and then sunnier weather. The freezing level should remain around 2600m.

Whistler expecting heavy snow
There should be intermittent snowfall in Europe this week. Most of the French resorts we report on are expecting between 30cm and 40cm of fresh snow but a few are expecting more than that. Alpe d’Huez should receive around 44cm this week, with most of this falling on Tuesday and Wednesday. Wednesday, Thursday and Friday should be quite cold too, with the temperature not rising above -9C on Wednesday 31st March.
Predominantly snowy weather expected in Alps this weekend
Predominantly snowy weather is expected up to and across this weekend. On Saturday 23rd January sunny spells will appear above most resorts before snowy weather returns on Sunday 24th January. It is going to be a sunny start to the weekend across France, Switzerland and Italy. On Saturday evening clouds will start to gather and fresh snow is expected to fall on Sunday.
