You can enjoy skiing in Austria at the moment

Although it is very early in the winter ski season at the moment this is when the foundations are laid for the months to come. The good news is that the weather so far is helping to set us up for a great season, with excellent early snowfall and temperatures remaining suitably low. This week has seen further snowfall across the major European skiing nations and more snow could land over the weekend. You can enjoy skiing in Austria, France, Switzerland, Italy, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Finland at the moment.

Andorran ski resorts set for fresh snow this week

Dustings of snow are expected in Andorra this weekend and the lower temperatures will help the pistes to firm up.

Voss in Norway expecting fresh snow

The sunny weather in Italy, France and Switzerland on Thursday will be short lived as the clouds will start to build on Friday and new snow is forecast for the weekend. Dustings of snow are expected in Andorra this weekend and the lower temperatures will help the pistes to firm up. The weather at the end of this week in Germany will be a combination of sunny and cloudy spells, with clouds building over weekend. The heavier clouds could bring more fresh snow to the German resorts.

Let it snow, snow and snow in Europe and Austria this week

More snow is forecast across the European resorts in the coming week. Saturday 20th November will mark the start of persistent snowfall at the majority of resorts. Austria expects to see the majority of its snowfall from Tuesday 23rd November onwards. Italy, France and Switzerland however should experience sunnier weather at this time. By Friday 26th November, the weather across the European resorts is expected to be sunny.

The snow is coming to Europe this week and is going to drop in Austria

The weather in the Alps this weekend is expected to turn unseasonably wintry. Some areas in Italy and Switzerland are expecting over a metre of fresh snow with freezing levels down as low as 1600m, which is exceptional for the time of year and should provide the few resorts that are open with some great powder days. Saas Fee is expecting 127cm of new snow to fall on the upper slopes. 30cm should fall on Saturday 1st followed by 18cm on Sunday 2nd, which is their closing day. The heavy snow should continue into next week, although there will be no lift served skiing.

The weather between Thursday 15th March and Sunday 18th March is expected to be largely snowy in France, delivering around 15–20cm of snow to most places. La Plagne should have light snowfall until Sunday and generally cold weather too, with the freezing level hovering between 1900m and 2000m. From Monday, 19th April, onwards it should get much sunnier and warmer with the freezing level climbing to around 2500m.
