Squaw Valley announce family improvements for the coming winter

California’s Squaw Valley has announced a raft of improvements for the coming winter 2010–11, with an onus on upgrades for children to make family ski holidays there still better. On the mountain Squaw Valley USA will transform the ‘old’ Belmont terrain park into a new ‘Kids’ fun zone’ which will include a play fort made of snow, and child sized terrain features including bumps, jumps and whoopty-doos.

The number of ski areas still open for the last days and weeks of the 2009–10 ski season in North America is now rapidly diminishing, but Mammoth mountain and Squaw Valley in California are both still open for snow sports. Past and present Squaw Valley employees, passholders and long time locals are invited to Squaw Valley USA’s Spring Reunion Ski and Ride Day this Sunday, May 9th.

Heavy snow across the Western states of the US has been described as “an early Christmas present” by one Californian resort. Resorts around Lake Tahoe on the west coast and as far inland as Utah have been reporting several feet of fresh snow, dramatically boosting conditions in perfect time for the coming peak weeks of Christmas and New Year.

A major storm system moving across the USA from the Pacific Coast is adding huge snow accumulations to many of the country’s leading destination resorts. It’s great news for many of the major resorts in California and Colorado which have only been able to open limited terrain, often with machine made snow, due to a lack of major snowfalls prior to the current storm.
