New happenings in the ski resorts across the region

The wait is almost over as the new ski season approaches. Sölden will open tomorrow for 2010–11, one month earlier than planned, with a few lifts in operation on the Rettenbach glacier. The Austrian Tirol welcomes the 2010–11 season with new happenings in the resorts across the region from additions and improvements to lift networks, new hotels to local events and festivals.

After record-breaking October snow conditions in the Austrian Tirol, November’s snowfall proved a little less forthcoming, but fear not December has arrived and so has the snow. Many Tirolean ski resorts have received between 20–50cm of fresh snow, making a welcomed start to the winter season.

Austria’s Tirol region, home to many of the country’s most famous resorts, has issued a list of ideas for skiers and boarders who don’t want to miss out on their annual ski holiday despite the credit crunch, but want to cut costs as far as they can without compromising on quality.

First off Tirol recommend you choose your resort carefully and “Stay three star but ski five star.” They point out that just a stone’s throw away from some of the world’s top ski areas are lesser known cosy mountain villages that remain the best value for money, offering genuine and authentic Tirolean hospitality.
