California to become first state in US to make ski helmets compulsory

California may be the first US state to introduce a law requiring children to wear helmets on the ski slopes next winter. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is currently considering whether to make a bill in favour of such a helmet wearing requirement in to law, the bill passed through California’s senate with a two thirds majority this week.

Squaw Valley announce family improvements for the coming winter

California’s Squaw Valley has announced a raft of improvements for the coming winter 2010–11, with an onus on upgrades for children to make family ski holidays there still better. On the mountain Squaw Valley USA will transform the ‘old’ Belmont terrain park into a new ‘Kids’ fun zone’ which will include a play fort made of snow, and child sized terrain features including bumps, jumps and whoopty-doos.

Winter Park ski resort in Colorado reaches 70

Winter Park, Colorado’s longest continually operated ski resort, will turn 70 this winter and will celebrate by opening the new village cabriolet lift, a feature of nearly all Intrawest resorts. The open-topped gondola provides slope access. Winter Park will also celebrate the completion of its new slopeside resort complex, The Village at Winter Park Resort.

New Hampshire ski resort areas announce upgrades for season

All six of New Hampshire’s ski areas situated close to the resort town of North Conway have announced upgrades for the coming winter. Cranmore ski area, the closest to the town, is spending the most on upgrades, approximately $6 million, including a new quad chairlift to replace the old South Peak double chair, which will nbe moved to an expanded beginner’s area.
