The Winter Dew Tour, the world’s premiere season-long winter action sports tour, announced that Mount Snow Resort will host the third and final stop Feb. 5–7, 2010 of the Tour’s second season. The Winter Dew Tour showcases top winter athletes from around the world competing in freeskiing (slopestyle and superpipe) and snowboarding (slopestyle and superpipe) for both men and women.

A backhoe growls as it carves the dirt where a second ski lodge will be built at the White Pass ski area. Not far away, a bulldozer groans as it pulls a stump from the hillside, clearing the way for a ski run. After two decades of litigation, work to nearly double the size of White Pass to almost 1,600 acres is finally under way.

There were 2,289,426 alpine skier and snowboarder visits to New Hampshire resorts last winter, decline of 3 percent for the previous winter of 2007–08, which set the state’s all-time record for skier visits. The numbers were compiled by Ski NH, a statewide association representing 37 alpine and cross country resorts and more than 200 lodging properties in New Hampshire.

Did anyone else know the Bruce Willis owns a small ski resort? Well, it’s for day-skiing only, but the actor owns a day lodge and apparently the rights to skiing on Solider Mountain in central Idaho. Earlier this year, an accidental fire destroyed the lodge and now Willis is getting ready to start rebuilding.

Ed Fowler has gone through 30 years and three different ski village proposals. With each new plan comes a new developer but the promise remains the same — they’ll build it and more people with more money will come flocking to the mountain resort town nestled in the serene Green Mountains.

Mount Sunapee ski area operators are once again asking the state to expand the resort’s lease area by 175 acres to build trails, a new lift and lodge. “We feel that we need this to maintain our customer base,” Mount Sunapee Resort Marketing Director Bruce McCloy said yesterday. “This is a one-time expansion we need … with another 29 years to go on our lease.”
